Pulled the trigger!

Hi everyone!

I would like to start by introducing myself.  I'm LaRon and welcome to my blog!! I've never blogged before; so please be patient with me as I learn the mechanics and etiquette associated with blogging.

My partner and I finally decided to purchase our dream home through Ryan Homes.

We live in Glen Allen, (Richmond) Virginia and have chosen the Milan. We toggled between the Milan and Jasmine Grove for quite some time but after carefully weighing the pros and cons (including a $10,000) price difference--we chose the Milan.  Interestingly enough we had to take a 45 minute drive to Providence Forge, Virginia to see the Milan model because Ryan Homes does not have a Milan model in the Richmond metropolitan area.  Though it was an inconvenience, it was well worth it when we toured the home.  Some of the standouts of the Milan include a back bedroom away from the high traffic of visitors coming up the stairs and the side-car garage that has a direct path into the kitchen so that you do not have to track across multiple rooms in the home.  Despite the Milan being Ryan's smallest model in the division, after adding a free morning room and finished basement we'll have approximately 3300 finished square feet.  Because we've just recently adopted a beautiful baby girl (Morgan), and I often work out of the home, this will be a welcomed upgrade coming from 1500 square feet (that's currently on the market).  We've decided to go non contingent, so we have about 6 months to sell our home or we'll be paying for two mortgages---ouch!!

Here's the floor plan that we went with:

Stay tuned for updates.  We have our 14 day appointment (12/22/14) wiring (12/22/14), and flooring appointment (1/16/15) coming up.  Oh, we're still waiting final approval for our loan, but pending no issues the move-in date is 5/1/15.

  1. I love your floor plan. The bedrooms are all nicely sized. We had to drive 2 hours to the nearest model we picked, we wished there was one closer. We ended up driving to see it twice, as my parents wanted to see it too. I see they already have the sold sign on your lot, we are still waiting for our lot signs to go up. Our break ground date has been pushed to after our originally move-in date. Good Luck at your flooring and wiring appointment.

    1. Sounds like the model was a big hit if you decided to take your parents to go and see it as well. Be sure to take plenty of pictures with the sold sign when it goes up!! Looking forward to seeing them...:)

  2. Welcome to blogging! Congrats on the purchase of your Ryan Home. I can't wait to see the progress of your home as you embark on your journey. I like the floor plan that you chose. Isn't it always the case that you have to drive "out of your way" to visit the model of the home you chose? We had to travel to Ashburn, Va and Westminster, MD to look at the model home that we selected (from Prince George's County), but it's very much worth the drive. Good luck on the building process and your first blog was great. I look forward to seeing more of your posts in the future.

  3. Congratulations on the adoption and the build. What an exciting time for you guys!! We are very lucky to have our model in the neighboring town. In fact, it's where our sales consultants office is. We have gone there every weekend. Measuring things for furniture placement. Checking to see where we want our intercoms, cable hookups, etc... It's become a second home. Good luck on your appointments. I think the selections part was my favorite, so far.

    1. Thanks KathyAnn!! It's been a tricky time with the holidays, but we're hoping that the process will speed up pretty soon and we'll get back to thinking about building, home staging, and other fun stuff.

  4. Congrats on everything! You both look familiar and I see you representing VCU!! GO RAMS! I did get excited when I saw you were building a Milan because our neighbors will be building one....but we aren't in the same neighborhood. Anyway, good luck with everything and can't wait to see updates!
